WP Ban Plugin – A Spammers Worst Nightmare!
WP Ban is the ideal plugin for dealing with Spammers
or any other irritating low life scum bags that tend to use your blog as a dumping ground for all their junk!
I’m sure we all experience the same thing at one point or another, we get up in the morning, check the website ? And get greeted by a load of junk messages dumped as comments on our blogs.
Oh & if your anything like me, then first thing in the morning is not the best time to try & piss me off !

But What About Akismet
Ok we all have Akismet installed by default on our WordPress blogs, and yes Akismet stops this junk from ever reaching your articles or posts, but nevertheless your admin panel is still full of this garbage & therefore it needs to be dealt with!
Take More Extreme Measures
There are 2 slightly more extreme measures you can take if you are plagued by persistant spammers (No! I don’t mean nuke their computer, hmm or maybe..??). No the first step is to get yourself a copy of the WP Ban Plugin by Lester Chan. This Plugin has a very small footprint & will happily run alongside Akismet, yet it does everything that Akismet fails to do, such as;
- Ban IP Address
- Ban IP Range
- Ban User Agent
- Ban Host
- Ban Referrer
These details do need to be entered manually, by accessing the plugins settings screen, but once done you can forget all about it, the ban remains in force until such time as you choose to remove it.
A Large Selection Of Spammers IP's Already Added
If you do happen to be one of the unfortunate few that cannot use this plugin because of a conflict with another plugin, then all is not lost. You can achieve the same results by using the Ban IP function in your CPanel of your hosting account. In fact after a spate of hack attempts & phishing attacks last year, that all originated from Nigeria, my host decided to put a ban on the entire country as a security measure!
For those of you that are concerned about banning an innocent party, there is the ability with this plugin to put a message on the screen giving a contact email should anyone feel they were unfairly banned. Although having said that, I have run this plugin for almost 6 months now & have not received a single request to lift a banned IP…? That kinda says it all I reckon !

The sooner we all take a stronger stance against spammers, hackers & phishing attacks, the sooner they will get the message that they are just wasting their time & providing we employ such tools as the WP Ban Plugin, then the irritation factor is reduced to almost zero.
