What Google Really Wants !

If you’ve been involved in any way with Blogs or Blogging, then at some point or other you will have heard or read of so called conspiracy theories relating to Google ( or as it is often referred to as, ” The Google Monster ” ). Such a derogatory label has come about probably due to the vast number of would be Internet entrepreneurs, who, like myself , have repeatedly found themselves banging their heads against the wall when trying to figure out exactly what Google would like us to do, in order to achieve some sort of reasonable ranking for our would be Blogs & Websites.

I remember well one little incident which had me yanking what little hair I have left out by the tweezers full ! I had been religiously checking the ranking on one of my Blogs / Webs at around midnight every day. A little extreme you may think, but I had been posting to this site like crazy & was taking note of how long it was taking Google to index these posts. As the Blog in question was only 3 months old, I was amazed to see these posts being picked up within a few days & even more amazed to find that within just a few short weeks I had achieved some pretty good rankings & had managed to get 5 of my top keyphrases into the top 10 with Google.

What Google Really Wants !Great you may think, but NO! because this is where our friends at Google yanked the proverbial rug from under my feet without any warning what so ever. Literally overnight all my ranking with Google for around two dozen keywords / phrases, was completely wiped out ! When I say wiped out, I’m talking about my ranking dropping from the first 10 to lower than 100 for each & every search term. You can imagine my frustration & mood, especially when after logging into my Google account, I find there are no messages telling me of some obscure rule I had broken & as such had been dealt a large measure of Googles wrath !  To cut a long story short, after several cries for help being posted on the Adsense Forum, I eventually get told, ” Don’t worry about it, this is what we call the Google dance

Well I for one was not in the mood for jigging about I can assure you, however the guys that were kind enough to respond to my pleas for help, informed me that it would all sort itself out in a week or two and to be fair it did. My ranking started to climb again, sometimes jumping as much as 40 – 50 positions overnight & before long my traffic such as it was, had returned.

My main bone of contention in this incident was the fact I found it extremely difficult to find answers to my questions, therefore you can imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this little gem, which is a collection of videos from Google’s Matt Cutts, giving a little insight into the finer workings of the dreaded Google Monster.
