Social Bookmarks & Networking is not something that has taken place over night, some of the older more recognised sites have been around for years , in fact since the early 2000′s. Although it would probably be fair to say that the rise in popularity has been far more recent, as trends & lifestyles change.
Whether or not you get involved with these sites as a means of website promotion really has to be a decision each of you makes for yourselves, however lets just look at a few aspects of what is involved & the potential gains that could arise from your efforts.
There are at present an amazing amount of social network, social bookmark sites, so how do we choose which are going to be worth our time & effort..?

Ok well shock horror!!!, I just discovered that two social network sites that I use myself, MyBlogLog & Blogcatalog, don’t even come into the reckoning hmm now that really is a surprise. But as I did say earlier, trends & lifestyle change, what is in favour one year, can be nigh on extinct the following year.
Now we have a reasonable selection to choose from, what criteria do we use in order to choose where you place our efforts..? Well some social networking sites are not that geared up towards submitting bookmarks & of course there are also some social bookmarking sites that have limited interaction between members. So ideally what you are looking for is a site that offers bookmarking & also widespread interaction between members. In this way you then get your Blog / Website/ Articles in front of as many eyes as possible with the least amount of effort & time spent !
Well I don’t know about you guys, but having just tried Twitter for the last couple of months, more so in the last week, I have to say that Twitter gets my vote so far. If your time is as valuable as mine, then you could do a lot worse than throw your lot in with the little birdie. Although looking at my site stats for the last 5 days, it clearly shows that MyBlogLog is currently the top referer, but we will look at this again after 1 month and see how they score then & note what if any effect my social bookmarking & networking has had.
