Diary Update 10-Oct-2009
You may recall that this site was first submitted to the search engines on 3rd Sept 2009 & my goal was to get a top ten listing with Google, without paying a single dime. Luckily the subject of blog reviews, keywords optimization, web design & blog promotion, is a never ending source of material & content to write up. Damn I should have really opted for a harder task than this hahaha. No really this site has gone so well that it has even beaten my own expectations, so much so that I dare not think how far it will progress in 2 years time…?
The Latest Stats From CPanel

Ok so we can clearly see in the image above that the site recieved a total of 871 unique visitors for the whole of September, this is about 4 times greater than I expected, as past experience showed around 200 – 300 visitors for the first month. Now I know there are a few of you thinking that this is search engine bots constantly hitting the pages, but I’m sorry to say your wrong there! Hits from spiders, bots & crawlers are listed underneath the first set of figures.
Stats Taken On 8th Oct 2009

This next image shows the stats taken again on the 8th of October, why so soon…? Well simply because I was experiencing some problems with the search engines & CPanel stats are the most reliable as far as I am concerned. However, problems aside, these stats showed an excellent increase in unique visitors, in fact 684 from the 1st to the 8th of October.
What Search Engine Problems..?
Well I have mentioned in a previous article about the dreaded “Google Dance”, where overnight Google in it’s infinite wisdom, will completely drop your site like a hot rock ! All for no apparent reason hence the name “Google Dance”. Anyway as the site was not yet listed with Google, it was not Google that was the problem, it was all the others! Out of 55 listings 32 were dropped overnight, as you can imagine I went into panic mode, “WHAT THE @&%$ IS GOING ON I YELLED” hahaha yeah me in panic mode, not a pleasant sight, but the little woman soon calmed me down & reminded me of Googles past antics. So it seemed that this was not so much a dance as a veritable Disco party & all currently listed search engines had an invite !
Latest Rank Check 09-10-2009
So guys there you go, not one listing in the top ten, but several & I have no doubt that over the next few day most of these that have just been added (indicated by the blue cross), will probably move up a few spots as is usually the case. So in just 2 days this site had 32 listings dropped overnight & now has 74 new listings added ! Now is that crazy or what…?
OK so we now have our top ten listings with Google, does this mean the parties over…? Ahm no actually, I’m afraid we are still just scratching the surface as it were. You see the keyords that the top ten listings are for, are in Googles eyes obscure search terms & as such are not highly competitive. However this does not mean they are useless, in fact if you cast your mind back a couple of years, many of you will have heard of “Blogging To The Bank” by Rob Benwell. Now when he started out, do you think that the term Blogging To The Bank, was already in use & highly competitive…?
Actually it was he that came up with that phrase, as it was the title to his books, the point being that now a couple of years later, it is in fact a very competitive search term & has around 10,000 searches per month with Google. It is in fact a snowball effect, the more a search term is used and bandied around, the more it will get used and bandied around, until quite possibly you reach the point where your once obscure search term is pulling in thousands of searches per month.
