Keyword Density Check As Important As Keyword Selection
A keyword density check should be done every month & is equally as important as your initial keyword selection, but lets be realistic here, how many of us actually do it.?
About 6 weeks ago the index page (home page) of one of my sites had completely dissappeared from Google’s SERPs & yes you are quite right panic did set in ! Was this another Google dance, was it down to the new search engine Caffein..? What the hell was the problem..? If I had any hair I would have been tugging out by the fist full believe me.
I had been at position 2 on page one for months for the search term “Diy Computer Repairs”, yet now I had manually checked the first 200 search results & my index page was nowhere to be seen 
So What Was The Problem..?
Well as you are probably aware, an index page on a WordPress blog, is normally a dynamic page ie it is constantly changing as you publish new articles & because my co-author had written quite a few articles on mobile phones - jailbreaking your iPhone & iPod - HD Web cams & a few other tech toy articles, then any terms relating to ” computer repairs ” were just about nonexistant !
Now it does not take a genius to figure out that your meta description, your keywords, your title & whatever category you assign your site to, all need to be relevant in order to get a decent ranking & because of the articles posted on this particular blog, any terms relating to ”computer repairs” were no longer relevant ! And yes it was true that all the articles were still ranking well, but the index page was nowhere to be seen !
Keyword Density Was The Answer..!
Now we have all heard how keyword density is nowhere near as relevant or as important as it used to be and while that may well be true, this is one situation where a regular monthly check using any of the free keyword density tools available online, could have prevented this problem from ever arising in the first place. After rewording several articles & getting my co-author to modify his article topics, we have eventually clawed our way back to where we used to be listed, but the big question is, how many visitors did we lose because of this issue..?

You may be thinking that such a small difference is insignificant and would not cure the problem I had encountered, but I can assure you that a very weak keyword density was definitely the cause and as the recommended keyword density is now reckoned to be between 2.5% & 5.5% then looking at the table above clearly shows why there was such a problem in the first place.
Back on Page One After a Little Tweaking
This screenshot was taken last night (26th June 2010) and clearly shows that just a little attention to detail can make a huge difference to where your site gets ranked by the search engines. So my friends don’t just bury your heads in the sand & keep churning out article after article in the hope that things will eventually change! If your having issues with ranking then please do a keyword density check & find out first of all if your density is too weak or is it so strong that the search engines see you as spamming or keyword stuffing.
