Comment Policy

Take a few minutes to read our new comment policy & avoid the risk of having your comments rejected.

As many of you are aware, we recently converted My Blog Review to a DoFollow Blog, this was done primarily to give back a little something to our fans & followers, by way of a backlink or two to their own site / blog. You know the concept I am sure, it is called “You scratch our back & we will scratch yours” & to any fair minded person this would seem a very fair and reasonable situation.

However the Google monster has reared it’s ugly head yet again ! Not contented with being the instigator of the NoFollow meta tag, Google’s Matt Cutts is on record as saying that by converting a blog / website to DoFollow, you run the risk of damaging your sites reputation & authority.

Getting Flagged By Google

On checking into this a little deeper, it would seem that the problem is being brought about by spammers & also a small group of people that unfortunately find it a tad difficult to string together more than 2 or 3 words and form an eligible sentence or two (You’ve gotta feel sorry for them eh..?). Now there are ample plugins available for dealing with spam bots & if like us you use a captcha code on your comments form & also add the IP addresses of any spammers to your CPanel IP blocker, then after a very short period of time you will no longer have the problem of having to deal with these spam bots !

Now having dealt with the spam bots, we are now left with a couple more issues that Google sees as flagging your site as a potential spammers haven, these include;

1. Keywords in the name field of the comment form.

2. Multiple URLs in the text of the comment.

3. Irrelevant comments eg. “Great Post”, “Luv Your site”, “Thanks for this”,” Yeah I agree” etc.

Our New Comments Policy

Therefore having worked hard to promote this blog, we are not about to sit back & let a few small minded people spoil it for everyone else and to this end we have recently posted a new comments policy, detailed below;

New Rules For Comments

1. Do not be abusive, racist, rude to anyone! All comments made have the IP address recorded, therefore anyone found to be breaking this rule will be banned immediately & all present and past comments will automatically be deleted.

2. Do not use keywords in the name field, your first name, username, nickname is fine, but any occurrence of blatant keyword usage will be marked as spam & deleted.

3. Do not use any links in the body of your comments, as this will immediately flag your comment as spam. Each comment is allowed 2 links maximum.

1st link in the URL field of the comment form (this should be the URL to your own blog / site)

2nd link is available by placing a check in the Comment Luv box at the end of the comment form. This will display the link to your latest article on your own site.

4. Do not waste your own time & more to the point, my time by making such feeble comments as “Great Post” , “ I Like Your Blog”, “ Good Article”, “Nice info” etc. We are fully aware that this sort of comment is purely a pathetic attempt to get a back link. Therefore from this point on, (03-March-2010) any comments that do not add to the general discussion or article and thereby add to our reader’s enjoyment & interest will be deleted.

Comments May Be Edited

I reserve the right to edit any comments wherever I feel it may be necessary. This usually applies to correcting any spelling and grammatical errors, however any inappropriate comments may also be removed. Please remember, this will not cause any damage to the general meaning of your comment & in the majority of cases would improve the readability of your comment.

Moderating Comments

In order to protect My Blog Review from the ever present threat of spammers, idiots & morons, every comment will now be moderated before being accepted. I will review the comments as soon as possible and mostly I’ll reply to every comment made. Do not resubmit your comment if it is not appearing right away, it is probably awaiting moderation.

Please follow this new comment policy and your comment will have a 99% chance of being accepted, however if any of the above mentioned rules are not followed then your comment stands a 100% chance of being rejected !

2 Comments for “Comment Policy”

  1. Hi Joseph, Yes spammers are indeed a pain in the butt! Thankfully there are many very good plugins these days that help deal with them so at least we are not fighting a losing battle !

    By the way don’t forget about the Comment Luv plugin we now have installed, if you check the box when posting a comment, it will display the url to your latest blog post, for an additional backlink & a little added publicity.

  2. Sorry you’ve been having a rough time with spammers. When I installed Dofollow on one of my blogs, I saw an uptick in spam and it did take a little more time but the resulting traffic and participation was worth it.

    The new guidelines seem totally reasonable.
