Blog Promotion – Successful Twittering

Twittering Your Way To Success Part B

Twitter IconAs with most other blog promotion or social media products available on the Internet, there are always certain rules, (do’s & don’ts) that should be adhered to if your goal is to achieve a successful Twittering account. Yet as is always the case there are the odd few that will always walk the very thin line between what is acceptable & what is not! Therefore this article is intended as a basic guide to Twittering & keeping your Twitter account free from any warnings & threats of closure.

Do’s & Don’ts Of Twittering

1. Spamming

One of the worst things you can resort to is spamming ! Bombarding your followers & fellow Tweeters with constant & repeated plugs for a particular product or website, is one of the quickest ways to lose not just your credibility, but also your followers & in extreme cases you may even lose your Twitter account!

2. Retribution

Never resort to any form of verbal conflict or abuse with any fellow Tweeter, if you feel you have been wronged in some way then please use the official channels to lodge a complaint, or simply unfollow & block the user that has upset you.

3. Honesty

Always try to be as truthful as possible about any product or website you may be promoting eg do not say something is FREE if it is not, this is another surefire way to lose credibility, which will only harm your account in the long term.

4. Vulgarity

Refrain from bad language & unnecessary vulgarity, don’t forget you are trying to attract followers & not drive them away. Whilst it may be perfectly acceptable to swear & curse in your local bar, it would not be seen as acceptable in the market place & at the end of the day, that is exactly what Twitter is, your potential market place!

5. Keep on Theme

If using Twitter as a potential store front to a website or blog, it is wise to try and keep your tweets on theme eg if a person follows you because you usually tweet about sport, then suddenly tweeting about religion, cooking or dress making  is really not going to go down that well is it..? When people follow you they follow because your tweets interest them, they expect your tweets to follow a particular subject, when you stray from your initial theme, you are not giving your followers what they expect..?

6. Keep People Interested

There are literally tens of thousands of Twitter accounts that have not been updated for months, if you expect people to follow you then please give them something to follow & use your Twitter account if not daily, then at least every few days. People will not follow stale accounts, in the same way you would not buy last months newspaper.

7. Your Local Store

If you do use your Twitter account as a potential store front & notice board, then think for a moment about your local village store, the friendly greetings, the pleasant atmosphere, the helpful & informative assistants, these are the things that draw you to that store time & time again and these are also the things that will get you the followers needed to make your Twitter account a success!

Summary

This has been a  basic guide to what would class as common sense to the vast majority of people, however the pressures of trying to get a new website or blog off the starting grid can sometimes cause us to lose focus on important yet often very basic issues. Therefore this article is intended as a  friendly reminder and by following these 7 simple rules you will soon be Twittering your way to success.
