Blog Comments – DoFollow – NoFollow

Many bloggers are actually unaware of the NoFollow / DoFollow situation & the movement that is underway to get WordPress & many of the big social bookmarking / networking sites to drop the NoFollow meta tag.

Many blogs / sites have yet to convert over to DoFollow, is this because the owners of these sites don’t wish to help their fellow bloggers..? No! I don’t believe that is the case, bloggers are in general a very chatty friendly group (at least the ones I know are).

If you are anything like me, your interest in blogging is not just restricted to operating & running your own blog! I often spend hours reading articles & posts on my fellow bloggers sites & very often feel compelled to comment on some of them. All this commenting does eat into your available time & so it is always nice to be rewarded for your efforts, by receiving a backlink to your own site.

As our time as bloggers is so valuable, it makes sense not to waste it posting comments to sites where no one gets any benefit!  However, the old method of scanning through the source code of a site, to check for the NoFollow meta tag was even more time consuming than writing the comment!

The answer to this dilemma comes in the form of a very clever yet simple add on for the FireFox Browser called NoDoFollow.

Simply dowload the browser if you do not already have it installed..? Then using the link above, download & install the NoDoFollow Add On, once installed you can enable or disable it from the tool menu on the FireFox Browser.

The image above shows a typical comment page with no visible means of telling if the blog in question is NoFollow or DoFollow..?

The image above views the exact same comment page with the add on for Firefox enabled, this highlights all NoFollow links RED & DoFollow links BLUE. This makes it very easy to check blogs, social network sites & social bookmark sites! No more wasting your valuable time, now you can easily see which sites are worthy of your comments.

Blog Comments – DoFollow – NoFollow

The image above shows quite clearly that this particular blog is a NoFollow blog & therefore comments placed here are of very little value to you, as the NoFollow meta tag instructs the search engines to basically ignore the link to your own site! We as bloggers need to work to spread the word about the use of the NoFollow meta tag & the movement to get it dropped. The more we discuss this issue the more the word will spread & who knows, maybe one day we can go back to how things used to be.
