Alexa Ranking Affected By Poor SEO
If your SEO is not upto par then no matter how many articles you write for your blog, your Alexa ranking will not improve! I have seen so many blogs that have great content yet they are buried under millions of other blogs, simply because their SEO efforts are virtually useless, or in some cases even nonexistant.
Therefore this article is going to cover a few of the more crucial SEO factors that you should pay close attention to if you wish to increase your website traffic & ultimately your site’s Alexa ranking.
Now I know there are some of you that are expecting some sort of silver bullet, a little known magic formula, a quick fix ! Well I am sorry to disappoint you my friends, but there is no such thing. What there is however is tried and tested methods of improving your website traffic, which in turn will, without a doubt, improve your Alexa ranking. Why..? Because quite simply Alexa ranking is based almost entirely on your website traffic, after all if you use the correct title it says it all “Alexa Traffic Rank“.
SEO Factors Affecting Ranking
1. Research keywords & phrases.
2. Using the correct heading / title tags. Check that your theme is using a H1 or H2 title tag for your article title. I know of at least one theme that does not do this. Also any other headings throughout the article should not detract from the title, eg if your title uses H1 then use H2 for other headings on the page, if your title uses H2 then use H3 for other headings on the page.
3. Ensure your keywords / keyphrases appear in your title.
4. Place your keywords as far to the left as is possible whilst maintaining readabilty of your title. Search engines give more weight & importance to keywords at the far left of a title.
5. The use of stop words in titles should be avoided as they only dilute the value & weight of your keywords.
6. Try using 2 titles, the 1st title is what appears in the address bar of your browser eg www.your-domain.com/article-title/ & is more for search engine use. A 2nd more elaborate title for humans can be placed at the top of your article (check this article as an example) & can have a positive effect on the ranking of your article.
7. Ensure your keywords / phrases appear in the first 160 characters of paragraph 1. The nearer the begining the better! The first 160 characters are usually the default selection used as a description to your article, therefore keywords placed here will be given more importance by the search engines.
8. Don’t go overboard with keywords & phrases, focus on using 1 or 2 good keywords or phrases throughout your article & at all cost avoid keyword stuffing !! A keyword density of 2.5 to 5.5 is quite acceptable.
9. Choose 3 – 4 tags, these should ideally be single words that indicate what your article is about & at the same time should be terms people would use to search & find your article.
10. Ensure that wherever possible you include your most important keywords / phrases in the last 150 characters of your last paragraph. This simply confirms to the search engines that they have read your article correctly & chosen the correct keywords / phrases to focus on.
Following these steps will ensure your articles are optimized for search engines & as such will now rank much better. This will mean more prominence in search engine results, which in turn will increase your sites traffic & ultimately your Alexa Ranking.

I think you have dedicated this blog for alexa ranking improvement tutorial! great work steve!
Haha yes Chethan, there turned out to be a little more than I first expected!
But I have just checked and my own ranking has gone from 639,013 to 590,672 in just 13 days, so I think if readers follow the instructions then they should also reap the same benefits.
Hey steve
If you don’t mine
shall i say something??
Imprving alexa ranking is not a big-job dear It does not require all you have mentioned here …
Instead of writing how to improve alexa ranking you can write the blog post title like basci SEO for blogges…
Dont take this serious steve i just said what i felt…
that’s it.
@ Sudharsan, Yes I agree I could have cut down these articles on Alexa Ranking to a bare minimum as many other blog writers have done!
However, from the very begining of My Blog Review I have said that this blog will lead by example and is directed more towards new bloggers rather than seasoned bloggers.
Therefore I do not think it fair just to skim the surface of a subject & leave out so much relevant info that new bloggers may not be aware of.
I am aware that each of the tips on Alexa Ranking would probably show some increase given a little time, but I doubt it would account for my own ranking climbing from 639,013 to 575,204 in just 14 days..!! As far as I am concerned (and I may be wrong) this is due to combined factors & not just a single factor.
I do appreciate the fact that perhaps some of my readers are getting a little tired of hearing about Alexa Ranking, which is why I have tried to punctuate these articles with several other articles on different subjects. Anyway the boredom is almost over, there are only 2 left to do and then I promise to move on to bigger & better things hahaha
BTW. I have already covered basic SEO in previous articles.
Appreciate your comments dude !
you are thing that alexa ranking is a big job to be done..
I want to say something when i registered my blog my alexa rank was morethan 90+ lakhs i didntdo anything to my blog for first 4 month of time. But my alexa rank increases rapidly and it reaches to 103405 without any proper seo and posting ????. So dont give much importance to alexa ranking and keep posting good article frequently.. Dont bother about alexa ranking..concentrate in good posting and driving traffic to ur blog..It will do all the things for you. If you continue to post alexa rank 5,6,7 …your blog reader will get surely irritated
@Sudharsan, You may have noticed that there was far too much information to be placed in just one or two articles, therefore I had little choice but to extend the number of articles to 7 in order to cover everything !
Whilst you, having such a fantastic Alexa ranking, may see it as boring, I am sure that new bloggers would find the information very useful indeed.
Now perhaps you can explain why my stats on Alexa show;
* 56,650 Philippines
* 106,331 India
* 131,504 China
* 216,568 United Kingdom
* 286,464 Germany
* 437,910 United States
Yet your site shows;
* 8,391 India
* 254,374 Canada
This looks to me as if your site is regionalized & if so then that explains why you found it so easy to rank so high so quickly !
Also the category that you choose to initially add your site to will also have a huge effect simply because some categories have far higher competition than others !
Next you’ll be telling me not to bother about SEO because your getting thousands of visitors without ever doing any SEO hahaha
i didnt ever say dont bother about SEO i said dont care about Alexa ranking …
I not getting 1000 visitors daily man
I too a newbie like you..
cheers…..
All you write about seo onpage, I agree. But dont forget about seo offpage. What we call Backlink. My blog just a month. Cause backlink its rise so significant. Thx.
Hmmm yes I am fully aware of backlinks & their effect !
But I’m puzzled about the “significant rise” that you speak of..?
Your current Alexa ranking is 4,367,356 which is very typical of a new site & to be honest I don’t think your going to have a good idea of how your site is performing until it is at least 3 month old.
