Alexa Ranking – How To Improve Tip 2
Pay Attention To Title, Description & Keyword Relevancy
In order to gain traffic to our sites & ultimately increase our Alexa Ranking, we must make certain that we do everything we can to ensure our articles receive the best ranking possible with the various search engines. I had, in the past found myself just jotting down titles, keywords & descriptions with very little thought about what I was actually doing, the result of which was minimum traffic & a failing Alexa ranking.
Two of the best tools I found to help prevent this free fall of my sites ranking, were the Alexa Toolbar & the SEO Toolbar . The Alexa TB actually logs traffic to your site, but here’s the strange thing, it will also actually log YOU visiting & working on your own site, therefore after installing the Alexa TB if you then set your browser homepage to your website / blog, everytime you open your browser Alexa will register a visit to your site. Now in order to prevent an increase in bounce rate, if you are not actually working on your site, then you need to open a second tab in your browser in order to browse the Internet.
Use Multiple Internet Browsers
Most serious bloggers will actually have more than one Internet browser installed on their system, this is to ensure that everything is displaying correctly to the widest possible audience. I myself use IE8 & Firefox 3.5 as these two browsers account for 85% of my traffic. So having installed the Alexa TB on IE8, I now install the SEO TB on Firefox. Please note that you will need Firefox to install the SEO Toolbar.
Attention To Detail Makes All The Difference
The SEO Toolbar is an excellent tool for any webmaster to use, it lists all sorts of useful information about your site, including backlinks, directory listings with Yahoo & DMOZ, also a list of other very useful sites for gauging how well your site is doing.
Two of my favourite features on this toolbar are the SEO Xray which is an excellent tool that will show you how your headings actually display to the search engines & will also check keyword density of whichever page you happen to be viewing on your website. The 2nd feature is the Competition button which has many useful links including Alexa & Whois.domaintools.

Whois.domaintools can be used to gather quite a bit of useful information about a website, but the best feature as far as I am concerned is the site profile feature. This will actually give you the relevancy as a percentage, of your title, your description & the keywords used on your website. The idea being that you get the relevancy of each as close to 100% as is possible & believe me, you will be amazed at how low some sites will actually score using this tool.
Following these instructions will ensure your website / blog is fully optimized and has a solid foundation on which to build upon, which should then start showing a gradual increase in traffic. Unless these initial basic steps are implemented, there is unlikely to be any great improvement in ranking & whilst each step may in itself seem trivial, I can assure you that taken as a whole, they will make a noticeable difference to your website ranking.
