Alexa Ranking – How To Improve Tip 1
Basic Page Layout Can Make A Huge Difference
Ok before going into the all important layout of a page, let me just explain for the benefit of those that do not know;
1. The main difference between Alexa Site Rank & Googles Page Rank
2. Why Alexa Ranking is so important to your blog or website.
On the face of it you may see Alexa & Google ranking as virtually the same thing, but unfortunately they are not ! The only similarity is in the fact that both are used as measures of a websites popularity & effectiveness.
But whilst Google’s PR is used as a measure of ranking, Alexa’s Traffic Ranking is used primarily by would be advertisers, in order to gauge the effectiveness of potentially advertising on your site!
Google Page Rank
Google’s PR is based predominantly on quality backlinks to your site and was originally meant as a yard stick by which websites would be measured when determining ranking. This didn’t ultimately work out as Google had planned and the Google PR is now all but scrapped, or should I say it no longer carries the weight & importance that it once did. Googles PR is on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest !
Alexa Site Rank
Alexa Ranking on the other hand is a whole different ball game, it has little to no effect on your sites ranking with Google & is not so affected by backlinks as Google is, although I cannot say that backlinks have no bearing at all. Actual traffic to your site is Alexa’s main measure of your sites importance, plus of course the time spent on your site. So your probably wondering why is Alexa important..? Well if you wish to monetize your website / blog & wish to attract potential advertisers, you will quickly discover that the higher your Alexa ranking is, the better (#1 being the highest). You see many advertisers will look at your Alexa ranking & use this as a measure of how effective your site is for advertising.
Page Layout
There will be those amongst you that will say that page layout has no bearing on Alexa ranking, so why then am I including it in this article..? Well my friends this is a case of the chicken & the egg (for want of a better comparison). Yes it is true that page layout is not a crucial factor in deciding your Alexa ranking, however as Alexa ranking is predominantly structured around your website traffic, then I am afraid it is an important element to consider. For example, what is the point in me going through this 7 part short course, only to find that your page layout is so bad that you get hardly any traffic from organic search results?
The Use Of Heading / Title Tags
There are many blog & website owners out there, that seem to have no idea about basic page layout, heading tags & the use of bold text. Ideally your website / blog title should use the H1 tag, the title to an article within this site should then use the H2 tag, with H3 or H4 used for further headings within the article & also used for titles in the sidebars. Other areas of importance within an article should be highlighted either using bold text or if appropriate use block quote or italics. Now you may not be aware, but the search engines do tend to give a lot of weight to the H1 tag & this is why it should not be scattered around all over your page, in fact both the H1 & H2 tags should be used sparingly & if done correctly then this will reflect in your page ranking.
Now as I said this is the ideal use of heading tags & to be fair most themes will tend to have this set up correctly, however there are cases where I have seen H1 tags used throughout an article, I have also seen a blog recently that had every article set completely as bold text, these are both extreme cases obviously, but lets just check that our headings & page layout are as beneficial as possible to our ranking, before moving on to the other areas of increasing our Alexa ranking.
